From the Center's mission to empower the Deaf Community, the Adventure Club was established. The Adventure Club is a program whereby members of both the Deaf Community and hearing population (primarily sign language students or those interested in Deaf Culture) unite through activities. Through these activities, the Deaf Community has the capacity to learn English, interpersonal communication skills with the hearing population, and teamwork skills. Participants also learn about healthy living without the thrill of drugs or alcohol. In return, students and hearing participants learn American Sign Language, Deaf Culture, cultural rules of social interaction and team building. The activities, though not all, are mentally and physically challenging and compel the participants to rely upon and communicate with each other for success and safety. Past activities have included scuba training and diving, camping expeditions, white water rafting, rock climbing, and ropes courses. To participate one need only have a good attitude, a spirit of teamwork, and a sense of adventure.
